Entertainment for the evening:
- TORONTO ALL STAR BIG BAND ORCHESTRA
One of the most exciting bands around, the seventeen-piece Toronto All-Star Big
Band, joined by the voices of The TABB Five, "cooks" with its powerful tributes
to the heady hits of the 1930's and 40's. Armed with brilliant programming, slick
choreography and witty cultural nostalgia, this vibrant cast of awesome talent has earned
its position at the top of the list of many presenters throughout Ontario and the U.S.
Theatrical engagements are far-reaching, and recent gigs have included the Elliot Lake
Entertainment Series, Roselawn Centre Jazz & Blues Series, Beaches International Jazz
Festival, New York's Riviera Theatre, an entertainment spot on national television, and a
performance tour throughout Florida. Sell-out crowds, standing ovationsand rave reviews
are de rigeur for this all-star ensemble.
- JUNE GARBER
When you watch June sing, you feel as if she is singing directly to you. Her
warmth & unmitigated joy at being on stage envelopes you and pulls you close and
encircles you with her warmth! Every song that she chooses to sing connects to a base
truth within so there is never any artifice only that which is true! Her voice
reflects each emotional shift that the writer intended. This is why she sings some of the
Most Complicated & Greatest Songs ever written: Gershwin, Porter, Rogers & Hart,
Sondheim, Kurt Weill. Whether Growling Out St. Louis Blues or reveling in the
pure tone of Heres to Life her connection to each song isfrom her soul!
- MICHEL BÉRUBÉ
Michel Bérubé burst onto the scene in December of 2004 when his
independently released version of O Holy Night was embraced by radio programmers across
the country and included in the top 5 most added tracks of the season. This
unprecedented success not only attracted the attention of Universal Music who asked Michel
to contribute a song to their annual Christmas compilation of Canadian artists, it also
prompted the legendary Jennifer Warnes to record a duet with Michel for a Christmas album
entitled This Christmas which saw an unprecedented five songs find their way onto radio
play lists from coast to coast.
- PAULA SHEAR
Paula Shear is a powerful and versatile vocalist and composer who
is honored to be a guest vocalist at this years Chocolate Ball and lend her voice to
such a worthy cause. Her new debut CD, So Talk To Me...Musical
Conversations in Jazz, Blues,Latin, Soul
is comprised of an eclectic collection of
twelve of her original songs within the jazz realm. Her voice is a dynamic, multi-octave
instrument, capable of scaling the emotional heights and bleusy lows of her highly poetic
and creative songs.
